About the cemetery

Character and history

Mature trees and hedges structure the cemetery on Stadelheimer Straße. The twelve-sided funeral hall of pale tuff is 35 metres high. Graves of the Scholl siblings and other White Rose memorial places shape a historical visit.

The cemetery was built in 1931 to plans by Hermann Leitenstorfer. The original ambition of 100,000 graves explains the monumental funeral hall; the city now lists around 21,600 plots on 28.15 hectares. Memorial groves and the graves of White Rose members commemorate victims of National Socialism.
